Challenge of the day: You would not believe how difficult it is to pack things that have been unpacked. Unclear? Allow me to provide an illustration: mattress foams (if you don't know what that is, it's a poofy sheet of foam that you put on top of your mattress so that you don't have the mattress springs permanently imprinted into your backside) should never be opened until you are ON SITE. I made the mistake of opening it first. I was just going to give it a poke and see what it looked like but then it had this really gross smell so I thought I should unroll it. Set it free! Air it out! And now it smells lovely but it refuses to get back in the bag. So now I have rolled it as small as possible so that it is the size of a large hockey bag and it is wrapped tightly in a colourful bedsheet to stop it from springing open and attacking unsuspecting bystanders.
Big fat mistake of the day: I set up my gargantuan printer to make sure it works before I drive it 5 hours out of Toronto. It weighs 64.2 lbs (I'm NOT exaggerating. It says so in the manual) and I went through the tedious process of loading in the ink and setting up the paper tray and I even installed something on my laptop (which is brand spanking new by the way!). This does not seem like a mistake so far UNTIL I got to the end of the set-up manual and this is what I see:
CAUTION: Once your printer has been set up and used, we do not recommend that it be moved or shipped unless absolutely necessary. Colour laser printers are complex printing devices. Moving the printer or shipping it without properly removing the installed supplies can result in SEVERE damange to the printer. As a result, your printer may not operate properly afterwards.
My only thoughts at that heartwarming moment that did not consist of several four-letter words were: they should really put that on the FIRST page! So what have I accomplished from that endeavour? I learned that my printer is working flawlessly before I jeopardize its well-being by actually taking it to the place where I will be using it.
