I just realized that university is impossible. There is simply no way that I can know every little piece of news from the local level to the international stage. I have no idea how my journalism prof expects us to do it. I've been reading the news so much that I practically have bylines coming out my nose. It's painful to say the least. Maybe I need to just skim faster. That way, I can make it through the National Post, the cbc website, and the Globe and Mail to compare. Then I'll have time for the exotic ones like Al-Jazeera and Jerusalem Post followed by the local stuff like the Ottawa Citizen and the school news like the Charlatan student paper, magazine, and community paper. And after all that is done, I can repeat it all the next day because guess what. THE NEWS JUST KEEPS ON HAPPENING! I really wish people would stop doing so much stuff because the more they do, the more people are going to write about it, which means more for me to read. My eyeballs are tired from all this reading.
And on top of all that pleasure reading, I have to do my readings for my actual classes. Oh yes, all that news was just for knowledge! There will be weekly quizzes, much like the World Issues quizzes that Em and I failed every time. But here, in the wonderful world of higher education, it will all count for marks. Hoorah. Kill me now. I finished a 20 page article on the history of newspaper, radio, and television ownership. I also have 67 pages of global politics to read. I only have two eyeballs! It's only the second day of classes and I think I'm already beginning to sprout grey hairs (well, more than I already have).
On a lighter note, Frosh week is over. We had a concert tonight as the closing ceremony. I've never heard of any of the bands. They were mediocre. I think everyone was just tired. I hope I fall into a rhythm soon because I have work and reading coming out the wahzoo. It's NOT pleasant.
